Gyrotonic

The Gyrotonic Expansion System is invented by Juliu Horvath, a Romanian dancer, swimmer, gymnast and yogi. The equipment is a handcrafted wooden machine, that uses pulley, spring, friction and weighted resistances.

The movements are based on yoga, tai chi, swimming, and gymnastics; creating a dynamic blend of exercises that increase flexibility and strength throughout all the joints of the body. The spine is especially emphasized in the circular, spiraling, twisting, and elongating movements, in order to eliminate chronic stiffness and tension, and maintain maximum strength and movement potential throughout the body as a whole.

Specific breathing patterns are utilized to cleanse the body and strengthen the core; invigorating the body’s natural energy and revitalizing one’s entire system.

The Gyrotonic machines are entirely versatile; they accommodate people from every movement modality. The exercises can be made simple and gentle for those who are injured and older clients, or they can be comprehensive and dynamic for dancers and athletes of all levels. Children can also work on the fully adjustable equipment.

Gyrotonic sessions can be booked on an individual basis.
